But that\u2019s not quite right.<\/p>\n<p>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bulldogology.net\/how-to-treat-dry-skin-on-dogs\/\">dog\u2019s skin<\/a> and coat normally have a layer of protective oils that help keep them clean and offers as a basic guard against germs and insects.<\/p>\n<p>Bathing washes away this layer, and it gets replaced gradually over some time. Thus if you wash it away too frequently, you may be depriving your pup of that little basic protection that\u2019s essential.<\/p>\n<p>For a dog, bathing once a month is frequent enough, although it can be more or less depending on your judgment. A Nice, Thorough Pre-Brush<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Brushing your puppy\u2019s coat thoroughly before you have him jump into the tub is a great way to smoothen out the whole process, and get the cleaning done more thoroughly.<\/p>\n<p>Brushing the coat removes all kinds of dirt, mud, insects, dead skin, stray hair, etc. from the coat \u2013 and at least loosen up the stuff that doesn\u2019t come out just from brushing, so you can wash it away in the bath.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bulldogology.net\/best-dog-brush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dog brush<\/a> with rounded, relatively soft bristles that don\u2019t hurt your puppy\u2019s skin, and it\u2019s almost guaranteed he will be lost in blissful enjoyment through the whole brushing process.<\/p>\n<p>Also, brush the coat both forwards as well as backward, to help dislodge and get as much of the gunk and debris as possible.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Use_a_Towel_on_the_Floor_of_the_Tub\"><\/span>3. It\u2019s Good to Have a Helper Around<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can, of course, bathe your dog on your own without any trouble \u2013 unless it\u2019s a big dog and you need help after all.<\/p>\n<p>But having a helper around can really speed up and ease the whole thing, as someone is always around to keep an eye on the dog, secure it, or help around in any other way.<\/p>\n<p>A helper can also soothe the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bulldogology.net\/how-to-calm-a-dog-during-a-storm-2\/\">dog and help calm<\/a> it down if it\u2019s distressed or too exciting.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Having_the_Collar_on_During_the_Bath\"><\/span>5. Don\u2019t Wash the Face or Ears<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For the face and ears, generally avoid washing them directly with water, as getting too much moisture into the wrinkles and ears could lead to difficulty drying them properly.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important that the ears and wrinkles are kept free of excess moisture, as these tend to lead to infections.
